PM Prachanda confers with Khanal over worsening Maoist-UML ties

Prime Minister Prachanda held discussion with UML general secretary Jhala Nath Khanal on Wednesday in a bid to improve relations between the Maoists and the UML as well as to reach an understanding on formation of different commissions.

The meeting between the Prime Minister and the general secretary, at Baluwatar, came ahead of a cabinet meeting taking place later today.

Enhancing the effectiveness of the government's works, programmes announced by PM Pranchanda in his address to the nation on Sunday, formation of local bodies and improving the deteriorating relations between the two parties were chiefly discussed during the meeting.

A number of commissions envisioned by the Interim Constitution could not be formed due to lack of understating among the parties including the ruling ones.

The two parties are engaging in a verbal duel with DR Bhattarai of UCPN Maoist and M K Nepal of UML crossing swords and by a the clash between the student groups in Pokhara.
